Hometown: Spartanburg, South Carolina Year in program: Completed M.A. in 2019 Research Interest: My research interests mostly revolve around the physiological study of vigilance, or sustained attention. Although vigilance is sometimes written off as being a well-studied topic, new developments in technology continually allow us to investigate sustained attention in ways that were impossible in the past. The idea of finding an innovative way to tackle well-known problems is really exciting to me. Vigilance is something that we use every day without even realizing it, which means that it has applications in almost every field you could think of -- from UX to aerospace to healthcare, and much more. Career Aspirations: I would love to be a part of an active research team that incorporates a healthy dose of creativity into their experimental methods. I'm also extremely passionate about sharing the field of human factors with others, and would love the opportunity to one day become a lecturer or lead UX workshops. Fun Fact: My favorite college football team is -- and always will be -- the Clemson Tigers. (Sorry Tech!) Advice to younger students: Start early on compiling a portfolio of your work for future employers. And remember: you are here for a reason! Even if it's hard sometimes, be confident in yourself and take pride in your work |
